The Mondino Institute is conducting a study to evaluate a cognitive rehabilitation approach for individuals affected by autoimmune encephalitis. This study is aimed at people with this disease at any stage (even years after onset) who still experience cognitive issues, such as memory problems or other difficulties in daily life.
The study involves providing individuals with encephalitis a tablet equipped with a cognitive rehabilitation program, consisting of a series of exercises designed by psychologists to help train the damaged cognitive functions. Each program is tailored to the individual’s profile and abilities. Once the tablets are distributed, they can be taken home by the person with encephalitis (and their caregiver), and the rehabilitation sessions are done from home. The protocol includes the following steps: 1) an initial visit to the Mondino Institute in Pavia for the necessary evaluations and to pick up the tablet; 2) around 3 sessions per week, each lasting 30 minutes, conducted at home over a 3-month period; 3) a final visit to the Mondino Institute for the final evaluations and to return the tablet.
